Welcome to our Winter Newsletter
Welcome to our Winter Solstice issue. December 22nd is the shortest day and this Solstice celebrates the sun at its lowest point, marks the birth of the new Solar year and the beginning of Winter. A time of celebration, gather with family and friends around Yule log fires, drink mulled wine and tell stories. Hang mistletoe over your door frames as a sign of friendship and goodwill.
Hello from Aisha
So much has happened since I joined Brighton Peace and Environment Centre that I feel I have always been amongst you. Before I introduce myself, more importantly I want to say I am committed for BPEC to be a Centre which brings together and therefore strengthens peace and environment groups in Brighton. I believe together we’re strong, divided we’re weak. My other equally important objective is to expand our education programme to more schools, educators and community members to inform and inspire global citizenship.
Goodbye from Mareike

When I first arrived at BPEC in 2004 it was a building site. A dedicated team of volunteers with Hannah Judge Brown as coordinator tried to re-establish the organisation after it had been closed for several years. I stumbled into the chaos looking for a 6 months internship while researching my Master thesis in the UK. Somehow I got stuck!
A rumination on climate change now, and in reflection
We’ve got five years, sang David Bowie in ‘Five Years’, the opening track on his 1972 Ziggy Stardust album.
News guy wept when he told us, he sings a few lines later, earth was really dying. Earth was really dying. And he gives us an ultimatum: five years. What would it be like to really listen to this song, really listen to it I mean? The earth is REALLY dying. My brain hurts a lot, he keeps singing later on. My brain hurts like a warehouse. If you’re fresh back from the 8th December London demo, perhaps you’ll know what he means.
