Brighton Peace and Environment Centre launches the city's first ever "Green Pages"
Brighton, 4th August 2005
Brighton Peace and Environment Centre has created a 'green guide' to Brighton and Hove. Launching on August 24th, the "Green Pages" contain details of local and national suppliers of ethical produce and goods, recycling centres, green spaces, tradespeople who use environmentally friendly methods and materials, and volunteer groups and organisations. If you want a more environmentally-friendly and ethical way of life - whether you're shopping for Fair Trade food or signing up for a car club - Brighton and Hove's first ever 'Green Pages' can help. A local painter and decorator who is listed in the Green Pages only uses environmentally friendly paints and products. He said, "This is the best thing to happen to me in my business. It's difficult to make a living being a green tradesperson. There are a lot of people who want to use enviromentally friendly products in their homes but don't know how to find someone who only uses green materials." Hannah Judge-Brown, the Coordinator of BPEC, comments, The Green Pages is not just a listing of green and ethical shops, services and groups, it also gives advice and information on sustainable living. Travelling a long way to buy things like organic vegetables can be worse for the environment than popping to your local shop and buying a less organic alternative. The guide also aims to tell people where to find local shops so trips to the supermarket can be reduced.
