Hello from Aisha

So much has happened since I joined Brighton Peace and Environment Centre that I feel I have always been amongst you. Before I introduce myself, more importantly I want to say I am committed for BPEC to be a Centre which brings together and therefore strengthens peace and environment groups in Brighton. I believe together we’re strong, divided we’re weak. My other equally important objective is to expand our education programme to more schools, educators and community members to inform and inspire global citizenship.

I would like to express a big thank you to everyone for welcoming me so warmly and this applies especially to my predecessor Mareike. I have come from working in the charity sector for the last ten years, during which time I ran a recycling scheme in Leeds, conservation and community work in Guyana and most recently managed Brighton, Hove and Lewes Witness Support Service. You may well have seen my mugshot in the Argus a few times over the last five months commenting on climate change, poverty linked population issues and BPEC.

Finally I am really looking forward to seeing our new and existing plans evolve in the new year. This will see us allocating specialist roles for new and current volunteers to develop key skills and be part of the collaborative running of the organisations as well as the project delivery. We will be relaunching the library and resource centre having bought some must read essentials to the shelves and displaying our new themed global education boxes and story bags on issues such as sustainable development, fair trade and peace and conflict. I look forward to meeting you in the new year after our mid winter festivities.
