Excuse Me, Who’s in Charge Here?!
BPEC’s AGM was held in December to determine our direction and
future, to share information about current projects and to elect Officers
and the Management Committee. Here are a few introductions...
Chair - Merlin Mathews – Merlin set up Re-cycle, a charity involved in
shipping used bicycles to Africa. He has lived in Brighton for two years and was chair of BPEC throughout 2006. Merlin is based at the Eco-Centre and he is keen to continue moving BPEC on to a firmer footing.
Vice Chair – Stacia Staunton – Stacia was the BPEC co-ordinator for six months from autumn 05 to spring 06; she now works for the Environment Agency and is eager to stay involved with BPEC and its management.
Treasurer – Linda Austin – Linda has previously been BPEC secretary
library volunteer, secretary and chair of BPEC. Linda now works for the
health service trade union; she is a member of the Employment Tribunal, trustee of Sussex Beacon, Chair of Governors at St. Paul’s School and a former Labour Councillor.
Secretary – Nathan Catt – Nathan has been a volunteer at the centre since 2003 and is the current library group coordinator. He has been a Glastonbury Festival volunteer since 1999 and an active member of the Glastonbury Festival sub- committee since 2002.
Committee Members – Barbara Wilson – Barbara set up the
Fair Trade not-for-profit organisation ‘Love that Stuff’, and travels globally to meet her suppliers. She organises the Brighton Fair Trade Farmers’ Market, is a member of BPEC and wants to ensure a focus on social equality at the Centre.
Mike Butler – Mike runs a fundraising consultancy and acts for property
companies developing sustainable building projects. He has supported
BPEC for a number of years as part of the management committee with a particular focus on funding.
Clare Everett – Clare studied environmental philosophy and is now a primary school teacher with a personal specialisation in global citizenship. She has been a BPEC volunteer for two years and currently supports DFID development education projects.
