It's fantastic to now have a single source for this kind of information, and great for us to be part of it. For all those who want to be green and don't know how..., Ian – Bike for Life The 24th August 2005 may not be a date that goes down in history, but that wet Wednesday night was still an important one for BPEC as we launched our first edition of the 'Green Pages' - Brighton's more ethical (and therefore somewhat smaller) version of the Yellow pages. It was conceived, compiled and written by BPEC volunteers, and produced with the help of Brighton and Hove Council funding. To actually see the finished version printed and ready for distribution was a rewarding day for all those who had given up their time in the preceding months (and years!) to make it happen. We held a short informal ceremony at the Brighton Eco-Centre with guests invited from B&H Council and some of the local businesses supporting the project. Speeches were made and nibbles were eaten, all washed down with some organic wine (food and drink kindly donated by Pokeno Pies, Pulse and Infinity Foods), which kept the conversation flowing and soon had everyone hailing the Green Pages as the best thing since vegan-organic-wholegrain-sliced-bread. A big congratulations to BPEC and all those involved. This is a really good thing for Brighton & Hove and I hope this is the first of many editions. This has been a joint project between the council and BPEC and shows how successful that approach can be – we believe working together like this is the way forward for the future. Joyce Edmond-Smith, Chair of Sustainability Commission B&H Council. The Green Pages aims to be a handy guide to ethical, organic, green-thinking businesses and services around Brighton. Not only that, it has background articles and information on issues to consider when attempting to be a more conscientious consumer. Hopefully it will prove useful for you to have such greenness at your fingertips, as well as helpful to those listed. The only way business will ever become more ethical and green is if we, as consumers, demand they do by voting with our individual purchases. We hope the Green Pages will encourage that. If you don't already have a copy, you can pick one around Brighton in shops and pubs, or better still, collect one from the Eco-Centre! Please also contact us if you know of any deserving cases who should be included in the next edition. This is brilliant for B&H, something that can highlight the importance of green products and services... Simon Williams – St. Peters North Laine Green Counsellor.
