Climate change action plan - have your say

What is Brighton doing to combat climate change? Should it be doing more? BPEC would like to invite you to take part and make your thoughts known about the Brighton & Hove City Council draft Climate Change Action Plan. The Action Plan is a document that aims to address the issue of climate change in Brighton and Hove.

The Council website summarises the plan's role in illustrating the council's long term commitment, as a signatory of the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change, towards a sustainable future for the local, (and global), community. Further information can be found at the Council's website: www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/sustainability

Having been presented for public consultation on May 12th, the Action Plan is open for discussion for a period of three months, closing on the 11th of August. BPEC has corresponded with Thurstan Crockett of the Council's Sustainability Team about the need to engage the local community on issues of sustainability and specifically this plan.

BPEC has proposed a series of events to facilitate public participation in the consultation. We are planning to run three events that will provide a forum to engage in the issues that matter the most to you:

  1. The events will commence with a talk by members of the Sustainability Team explaining in some more detail what the Action Plan means and its aim for Brighton & Hove residents. This is planned to run at 7.30pm on Thursday, 22 June, at BPEC.
  2. The second discussion is a chance for you to have your say and discuss issues within the plan that matter to you in a public forum at BPEC. This is planned to run two weeks from the first event, at 7.30pm, on Thursday, 6th July, at BPEC.
  3. Finally the suggestions and comments made by you will be presented in a report written by BPEC to Brighton & Hove City Council for the end of the consultation period, on Thursday, 10th August (All dates yet to be confirmed).

Throughout the consultation period BPEC is requesting and receiving comments that you want to make on the Climate Change Action Plan. You can do this in person, via email to info@bpec.org or by post. Please help to stop the runaway train of climate change and take part in the BPEC consultation come along and make sure you have your say!
