Big brother back
No, this isn't about the dross reality TV show but the ongoing fight against the creep of the total information state...
There is still time to join the NO2ID drive to renew passports before October to avoid the risk of giving up personal data to be used for the government identity database.
From October all first-time passport applicants will be subject to background checks and interviews at a new enrolment centre. Also the cost for a 10 year passport is rising from £51 now to £93 to pay for ID registration and inclusion on the National Identity database. For more about the passport scheme see www.renewforfreedom.org
NO2ID believe that the government's case for the imposition of ID cards is weak. They make a number of claims, including: Competent criminals and terrorists will not be deterred and will work around the system to engage in even more foolproof identity theft. People will still enter the UK using foreign documents and ID cards will not deter people smugglers anymore than passports and visas already do, and benefit fraud and public services abuse will not be significantly helped as fraudulent identity is only estimated to be 2.5% of the benefit fraud problem.
To get involved, why not join our local NO2ID group which meets regularly at BPEC on the 4th Tuesday of every month
at 7:30pm. More information about the campaign can be 7:30pm. More information about the campaign can be found on their website at http://www.no2id.net
