Organisational structure

BPEC is a membership organisation, and every member can have input into its development. Throughout its history, BPEC has been an unincorporated association, in which policy is determined by the members at the Annual General Meeting. Executive authority and responsibility are endowed to the elected officers of the Management Committee. Strategic and operational issues are decided upon in the following ways:
  1. Annual General Meeting This is usually held in April each year, and all BPEC members are welcome. The annual report and end-of-year accounts are presented, and officers are nominated and elected for the Management Committee. Members discuss and vote on resolutions regarding strategic direction, and constitutional amendments may be made. The AGM is an opportunity for members to contribute towards the shaping and direction of BPEC.
  2. Management Committee The Management Committee is responsible for the governance of BPEC. It consists of elected (and appointed) officers and lease-holders, and usually meets monthly. Co-ordinators, core group members and volunteer representatives usually attend the meetings, to provide input regarding the day-to-day running of the Centre and to aid the decision-making process. Occasionally the Management Committee sets up working groups to focus on specific aspects of the Centre's work.
The Centre currently has one part- time co-ordinator, one part time Development Education Officer and a team of volunteers, most of whom commit to a minimum of one four-hour shift per week. One volunteer staffs reception, whilst others carry out project work. See our Volunteering page. BPEC is a member of the Development Education Association.
