Bomb release systems made in Brighton
Readers may be surprised to learn that a company based in the Peace City of Brighton makes release mechanisms for missiles. Although EDO-MBM claim that they don't export directly to Israel, their equipment could easily reach the Israeli army via another country, and then be used to attack Palestine. Activists have written to the company to ask about the ultimate destination of their components, and further activities are planned to follow up a recent demonstration outside the MBM factory (see article).
MBM proudly proclaim that their weapons systems are sold mainly to the US and British military. So the US and Britain have been killing Iraqi civilians with MBM’s bomb systems. This alone is enough to condemn MBM as merchants of death. MBM are putting bombs into the hands of killers (no, they don’t make the bombs themselves, but you can’t drop a bomb from a plane without a rack to carry it on and a mechanism to drop it, both of which are made by MBM).
MBM claim that they are part of 'the defence industry'. This euphemism suggests a morally neutral necessity. Who do they think they are fooling? Bombing innocent people in a far away country, who are no threat to us, is imperialist conquest and invasion, not defence.
MBM, like any company, wants to drum up business. In effect, this means encouraging war. They state on their website that in the last two years they have sponsored two international 'conferences' on subjects related to the sale and use of weapons of mass destruction. One was actually billed as a Ground Strike conference.
MBM claim they are 'responsible'. Yes: they are responsible for supplying, and encouraging the use of, weapons of mass destruction and the murder of thousands of innocent people.
