BPEC Trustee Position Do you want to help us to achieve our vision of a fairer and greener world by helping us to develop as a well organised, planning led charity promoting our global education and information centre? Brighton Peace & Environment Centre (BPEC) is an educational charity which inspires action through learning about the world. We encourage people to explore the links between their own lives and with people, places and issues throughout the world. We host a teachers' resource centre and provide training and support for teachers to bring the world into the classroom through curriculum related subjects. We provide the public with information about local and global concerns, supporting choices which prioritise peace, people and planet, throughout daily life. We are seeking new trustees to join our Management Committee to be involved in managing and directing our organisation to new levels. This is an exciting time to join our board, with 3 committed senior staff, a new volunteer structure, charity status and the delivery of our 5-year strategic plan. We are committed to growing our income, raising our profile and developing our programmes in education and community learning for the local area and beyond. The Management Committee meets with staff on the third Tuesday of the month in the evening to discuss operations and strategic work. There are various actions from these meetings to further our aims or planning prior to the next monthly meeting. Additional to the 12 meetings throughout the year there is the need to make decisions via email so that we can respond swiftly to the changes and needs within the organisation. Finally attendance and involvement in our Annual General Meeting for Brighton Peace and Environment Centre to meet with members, volunteers and reflect on the years achievements. We ask that trustees chose an area of focus where they work along staff and other key individuals to further our programme of work and running of the organisation. We are looking for people like you who have an interest in education, sustainability and are committed to our mission and values. Ability to attend Brighton based meetings, knowledge of the Charity and not for profit sector and its governance, networking and good communication skills are all essential, as is knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following:
These are unpaid appointments but the rich and varied trustee involvement hopefully provides new opportunities of mutual benefit to us and to you. The trustee role is for a 1 year period of which there is a 3 month induction period to allow you to get to know the organisation. If you would like to continue with us beyond a year, which we very much hope you do, then this opportunity does extend beyond the 12 month period with an opportunity for you to review your involvement and whether you would like to change your focus of work in the organisation. To apply please email Helen Bartlett: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the following: A statement (maximum three hundred words) describing how you would bring your skills and experience to benefit the organisation and what particular area of those listed above best suit your current interests. If you are interested in finding out more, we will be holding an open evening on Wednesday 10th September from 7pm at Brighton Peace and Environment Centre. This will be an opportunity to chat to existing trustees and members of staff and to find out more about the Centre, the work that we do and the commitment required. The AGM is being held on Tuesday 5th October where we will be voting in new Trustees.
